Mondays With Marlo - The Truth About Breast Cancer With Dr. Elisa Port

Breast cancer affects over 200,000 women in America each year, and for many of us, that isn't just a number. We all have a mother, sister, aunt, or friend who has been diagnosed, making us a participant in the experience. And while awareness has never been higher, and the rate of recovery improves every year, many women still struggle to parse the overload of information we have at our fingertips. What's fact and what's fiction when it comes to breast cancer prevention and care?

That's why we truly appreciated having Dr. Elisa Port on the show with us. Dr. Port is a surgeon first and foremost; she specializes in the care and treatment of patients with breast cancer, and performs over 300 operations a year. She's the director and the Chief of Breast Surgery at the Dubin Breast Center, and has recently released The New Generation Breast Cancer Book, a comprehensive guide to navigating the breast cancer experience for a newly diagnosed woman and her family. On the show, Dr. Port talks to us about when and when not to get our mammograms, what behaviors put us at a higher risk of getting cancer, and what to really make of the American Cancer Society's new guidelines. I learned so much - I'm sure you will too!

And be sure to check out Dr. Port's New Generation Breast Cancer Book, available in bookstores everywhere.
